Tadacip Therapeutic action

Tadacip Therapeutic action
Tadacip 20mg contains tadalafil which is an oral drug used for the treatment of impotence or the inability to maintain penile erection. This drug may also relieve symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. Tadalafil belongs to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase inhibitors, which act to increase blood flow to the penis to sustain a penile erection.
Tadacip is an oral drug which contains Tadalafil, a drug belonging to a class of drugs known as phosphodiesterase inhibitors. This drug is used to treat impotence or the inability to maintain penile erection in males and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH.

For us to understand the mechanism of action of Tadacip, let us first review how erection of the penis occurs. Erection of the penis is caused by filling of the penis with blood. This process occurs because the blood vessels that bring blood to the penis increase in size, thus delivering more blood to the penis. At the same time, the veins of the penis decrease in size and remove less blood from the organ. During sexual stimulation, nitric oxide is released in the penis. The release of nitric oxide causes the release of an enzyme known as guanylate cyclase. Guanylate cyclase will in turn produce cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) which is primarily responsible for the changes in the size of blood vessels carrying blood to and from the penis. This further causes erection of the penis.

The problem comes when cGMP is destroyed by another enzyme known as phosphodiesterase-5. This process results to normal blood vessel size and ends the erection. Tadalafil acts by preventing phosphodiesterase-5 from destroying cGMP. As a result, cGMP stays around longer leading to a more prolonged erection.

Tadalafil also relieves symptoms of BPH by reducing pressure in the muscle which surrounds the urethra which controls the flow of urine.

Tadacip is indicated for erectile dysfunction

Mode of administration

Tadacip is taken orally with or without food. For erectile dysfunction, the initial dose is 10 milligrams once daily. The drug is to be taken at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. The dose may be increased to about 20 milligrams per day.

For those with liver or kidney problems, please see your doctor for dosage adjustments.

Tadacip is contraindicated in people who are also using organic nitrates, nitrates and nitric oxide. It is also not advisable to be taken by males who have heart problems for whom sexual activity is not advisable.

Avoid the use of Tadacip in patients with recent heart attack (within 90 days), stroke (within the last 6 months), hypotension or low blood pressure, chest pain indicative of angina, heart failure, uncontrolled irregularities in heart rate or rhythm (arrhythmias) or increased blood pressure or hypertension.

Special cautions:

Special cautions should be observed in patients with liver or kidney impairment and those with cardiovascular or heart and blood vessel diseases. Those with anatomical penile deformation or those with predisposition to priapism should also take Tadacip with caution. Tadacip should not be taken by children less than 18 years of age.

The following signs and symptoms may prompt discontinuation of treatment with Tadacip: sudden vision loss or decreased vision in one or both eyes or tinnitus, dizziness or sudden loss or decrease in hearing. If erection lasts for more than 4 hours, seek medical help.

Side effects:

Tadacip may bring about side effects such as headache, dyspepsia, dizziness, flushing, swelling of eyelids, eye pain, conjunctival hyperemia, back pain, myalgia, visual disturbances, nasal congestion, sudden decrease or loss of hearing, and tinnitus.

More serious adverse reactions include Stevens-Johnson syndrome, exfoliative dermatitis, and severe cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke, or sudden cardiac death.

If any of these adverse reactions occur, seek medical help immediately.

Drug interaction:

Tadacip should not be used with alpha blockers because of the increased risk for hypotension. This drug should also not be used with other drugs for erectile dysfunction such as alprostadil because of an increased risk for priapism. Theophylline use may bring about increased heart rate. Other drugs which can potentially react with Tadacip are CYP 3A4 inducers (e.g. rifampicin, efavirenz, carbamazepine, nevirapine, barbiturates, phenobarbital, phenytoin, ribabutin), and CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. azole antifungals, protease inhibitors, cimetidine, macrolides).

Avoid concomitant use with nitrates and nicorandil.
