Types of Artificial Insemination
There are different types of artificial insemination procedures that help get couples pregnant. Get all the happiness in the world and complete your family with the help of artificial insemination. The following article will cover information related to this process that will help couples start a healthy family...Many couples keep trying for a baby for many years, without any luck. The reasons for not begin able to conceive can be aplenty. However, these couples may not despair any more and look forward to start a family of their own. These couples have a choice of artificial insemination that will help them conceive a healthy baby. There are different types of artificial insemination procedures that help the sperms reach the egg for fertilization. Some of these non-invasive, painless procedures are discussed below.

Different Types of Artificial Insemination

Artificial insemination is a process where the sperms are placed in the female reproductive tract through a method other than the coital method. The sperms used can be of the partner himself or from a donor. There are different types of artificial insemination that include the following:

» Intracervical Insemination (ICI)
The most common process used for artificial insemination is intracervical insemination (ICI). This is a less invasive and quick process. The sperms from the partner or donor are placed in the cervix of the woman. From the cervix, the sperms will swim into the uterus and reach the fallopian tubes. This artificial insemination process is carried out just before the woman ovulates. Then, a speculum is used to open the vagina. This helps expose the cervix. Then, with the help of a catheter and syringe, the doctor will push the washed sperms into the vagina. The sperms will get deposited into the cervix and the sponge is placed over the cervix. This helps prevent leakage of the sperms. It also helps to increase the changes of these sperms reaching the uterus. After about 6 hours, one can remove the sponge from its place. The entire process takes just about 5 to 10 minutes.

Artificial Insemination Cost: ICI is one of the most affordable insemination processes that couples can opt for. It costs just about $200 to $300. This process is generally considered for couples, where the partner has problems ejaculating during intercourse. However, women who have cervical mucus hostility or the men with poor sperm count are not advised to go for this process.

» Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is another common type of artificial insemination. The procedure for intrauterine insemination is similar to ICI process. The partner or donor sperms are washed in a lab and then inserted into the uterus of the woman with the help of a catheter. This procedure also takes less than 15 minutes to be completed. The sperms are placed in the uterus just before the day of ovulation. The sperms are expected to swim towards the fallopian tubes and fertilize an egg.

Artificial Insemination Cost: IUI costs about $300 to $700. It is carried out in cases where the partner is found to have poor sperm count or quality, the woman suffers from cervical factor infertility, or either of the partner suffers from an unexplained infertility issue.

» Intratubal Insemination (ITI)
This is a less commonly used procedure as compared to ICI and IUI. Intratubal insemination (ITI) is a process that is invasive as well as expensive. In this process, the sperms from the partner or donor are placed directly in the both of the fallopian tubes. This method is useful as the sperms do not need to swim towards the egg. They easily reach the eggs and fertilize them. This process can be performed laparoscopically or intracervically. In the laparoscopic method, a small incision is made on the abdomen and the fallopian tubes are located using a camera. Then, a catheter is inserted into the incision and the sperms are placed in the fallopian tubes. In case of intracervical way, a plastic catheter is pushed up the cervix and uterus through the vagina. Then the sperm sample will be deposited in the fallopian tubes for fertilization.

Artificial Insemination Cost: This is an expensive type of artificial insemination process. It costs about $1000 or more. It is carried out in cases where other methods of insemination have failed. Or in cases where the sperm is not able to reach the fallopian tubes due to obstacles within the uterus. The artificial insemination success rate for this process is about 5 to 30% per cycle.

» Intravaginal Insemination (IVI)
Last, but not the least, intravaginal insemination (IVI) is the one of the rarely used procedures for artificial insemination. The process of IVI is similar to natural intercourse. The sperms are placed in the vagina near the cervix. This process can be carried out in one's own house. Here, the partner collects his sperms in a sterile glass and this sample is then withdrawn into a sterile syringe. The woman herself, or her partner helps deposit the sperms into the vagina as close as possible to the cervix. This process is also called as self insemination.

Artificial Insemination Cost: The artificial insemination cost for this procedure is not much as it is obviously done at home. All one needs is a sterile syringe to complete the process. If one opts for donor sperms or requires fertility drugs, the process could cost about $500. IVI process is usually chosen by couples who have ejaculation problems or same sex couples trying to conceive.

These were some of the most widely used types of the artificial insemination process. The artificial insemination success rate for IUI is about 60 to 70% per cycle and about 10 to 15% for ICI. Speak to your doctor regarding the options you have for conceiving with the help of these methods. Your doctor will be able to guide you through a suitable process that will lead to a new addition to your family.
